The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced three arrests connected to a hotel operation.

According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the case began in September when detectives identified a suspect connected to a commercial burglary in Santa Clara. From there, investigators say they uncovered evidence linking that suspect and associates to numerous commercial burglaries throughout Santa Clara County.

Three suspects were arrested at a hotel in San Jose in July, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Church Instruments Recovered

Detectives recovered musical instruments valued at $15,000.

The instruments belonged to a church.

A False Gun Report Meant as a Distraction

Police say an associate of the suspects made a false 911 call during the original burglary, reporting a man with a gun at a hotel in Santa Clara. According to the department, the call was intended to delay officers' response while the burglary was carried out. The investigation ultimately resulted in three arrests and the recovery of property stolen from neighboring communities, police said, adding that investigations continue after crimes occur and that the department continues pursuing arrests.

Other Burglary Cases

This is not the first time Santa Clara police have announced arrests tied to commercial break-ins. In June, the department's Special Enforcement Team located and arrested a 47-year-old San Jose man connected to more than 30 commercial burglaries across the Bay Area, according to The Mercury News. That case, which primarily involved restaurants and cafes, dated back roughly a year and a half, and detectives had recovered evidence linking the suspect to the burglaries during an April search of his residence, the outlet reported.

Santa Clara has also dealt with other burglary rings targeting different kinds of property. Police previously linked two suspects to multiple burglaries of storage units within a local apartment complex beginning in October 2024, according to CBS San Francisco. Investigators executed warrants at two apartments and five storage units in San Jose and Santa Clara, recovering dozens of stolen items and arresting both suspects — one a Santa Clara resident, the other from San Jose. The Silicon Valley Voice reported that some victims in that case claimed losses exceeding $10,000.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has reported that property crimes such as theft and burglary increased in 2024 even as violent crimes, including aggravated assaults and robberies, declined, though the office notes its statistics are drawn specifically from burglary, theft and vehicle-theft data and that other sources may categorize crime differently. Commercial burglary rings have also drawn attention elsewhere in California; the Los Angeles Police Department recently announced the arrest of five suspects in a separate serial burglary case.
