Saratoga Springs is tearing up the price tag on its biggest night of the year. For 2027, organizers are making the city's New Year's Eve celebration free for the first time, swapping paid admission for commemorative buttons that won't cost partygoers a dime.
According to WNYT.com, organizers have launched plans for Saratoga New Year's Eve 2027, and the event is being framed as a kickoff to Saratoga 250, the 250th anniversary year of the Battles of Saratoga. Todd Shimkus, president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, said the event is being offered free to the community for the first time as a gift while kicking off Saratoga 250 in 2027, per the station's report.
Music for the 2027 celebration will again spread across three downtown anchors: the Saratoga Springs City Center, Universal Preservation Hall and Caffe Lena. Ten bands are scheduled to perform, and organizers say the lineup is made up of winners and nominees from the 2026 Eddie Awards presented by Proctors, the same report notes. The scheduled acts include TV Doctors, Tops of Trees, E Block, and “E.R.I.E. and the Jagaloons.” E.R.I.E. was named in the Alt/Indie Artist of the Year category on the 2026 Eddies Award Nominees list.
No Ticket, But You Still Need a Button
Even with the celebration going free, there's a catch for anyone hoping to walk straight into a venue: commemorative buttons are required for entry, the same account indicates. The good news is that this year those buttons cost nothing, a reversal from the ticketed model Saratoga has used in recent years. Organizers are also offering VIP buttons for $75 each, which include access to a lounge along with beer, wine and soft drinks, per the same source.
The artwork on this year's buttons and posters comes from Rebecca Vickery, a local artist who created the design, the station's report states. Saratoga New Year's Eve posters can be purchased at Impressions of Saratoga for anyone who wants a keepsake beyond the pin on their coat.
How This Compares to Last Year's Format
The shift to free admission marks a departure from how Saratoga ran its 2026 celebration, which combined free outdoor family programming with paid indoor shows. That event opened with free, family-friendly outdoor entertainment from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve, according to the Saratoga Business Journal, with DJ RVMBA and fireworks drawing crowds downtown at no cost, as iloveny.com reported at the time.
After that outdoor window closed, ticketed guests moved on to indoor performances at the same three venues, with general admission tickets starting at $26 and limited VIP packages available, the Business Journal's report added. The 2026 lineup featured the Allman-Betts Band headlining the City Center, Nicotine Dolls at Universal Preservation Hall, and Reese Fullmer and the Carriage House Band at Caffe Lena, according to a separate account from WNYT.com.
A Multi-Group Effort Behind the Scenes
Pulling off a celebration this size has required cooperation across several local institutions. Last year's event was organized through a partnership between the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, Discover Saratoga, the Saratoga Springs City Center, the Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association, the City of Saratoga Springs, Proctors Collaborative and Caffe Lena, per NYSMusic.com.
The celebration's New Year's Day coda is also locked in. The Saratoga First Day 5K kicks off New Year's Day at 11 a.m., according to the station's report, with race organizer fc4events.com listing the start on Broadway in front of the Saratoga Springs City Center and a finish on Maple Avenue behind the building. The USATF-certified course covers 3.1 miles, and runners and walkers are all welcome, per fc4events.com.
