Seattle woke to light rain Monday morning, with temperatures near 50 degrees and a gray start across the city. Lingering showers are expected Monday, with ceilings lowering late in the morning and a chance of partly sunny skies developing Monday afternoon before wetter weather returns.
Showers Return Monday Night
Monday’s high will reach about 55 degrees, while rain chances are 30% mainly before 5 p.m. Showers remain possible Monday night.
Wetter, Breezier Weather Arrives Midweek
Rain remains likely Tuesday, when Seattle could reach 56 degrees, and becomes more persistent Tuesday night into Wednesday. Wednesday’s high will reach the upper 40s to low 50s, with breezier conditions and gusts potentially reaching 20 to 25 mph.
The forecast puts snow levels at roughly 2,500 to 3,500 feet, bringing snow to mountain passes and potentially 4 to 6 inches there by Wednesday evening. Higher peaks could see 8 to 13 inches, making midweek mountain travel more complicated than a typical Seattle commute.
Pass elevations and winter travel
A U.S. Forest Service study places Snoqualmie Pass at 3,000 feet, within the forecast snow-level range of 2,500 to 3,500 feet. That reference does not provide a basis for comparing Snoqualmie’s elevation with Stevens Pass, and elevation alone does not establish road conditions.
For mountain travel in winter weather, WSDOT advises carrying tire chains, noting that conditions can change quickly and chains may suddenly be required on a route. The cited guidance does not specify particular I-90 chain or traction-tire requirements.
Brighter Weekend Outlook
Rain chances gradually ease Thursday, followed by a slight chance of morning rain Friday and mostly cloudy skies. Saturday and Sunday look partly sunny, with highs near 53 and overnight lows in the 30s; colder spots could reach the upper 20s.
No watches or warnings are posted for the Seattle area in the current forecast. Even so, umbrellas and warmer layers will be useful this week, especially from Monday night through Wednesday.
