The Sacred Heart Retreat Center outside Sedalia has decided to sell just under 80 acres of its land for eight new home lots. The retreat, which sits on 277 acres along Highway 67 in Douglas County, will keep operating even as the surrounding buffer land goes up for sale as single-family homesites.
The property is run by the Jesuit religious order and has long hosted visitors for intense periods of prayer and reflection, according to BusinessDen. Jesuits.org describes the broader Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat House as sitting on 280 acres in the foothills of the Rockies, a figure that differs slightly from the 277-acre total reported elsewhere.
Eight New Lots, One Big Parcel
Of the eight lots now on the market, one spans 40 acres and the other seven are 5 to 6 acres each.
Why the Retreat Is Selling Now
The retreat is preparing to undergo renovations.
Business manager Steve Bell said there are few good five-acre suburban lots in Douglas County.
Nearby Large-Lot Listings
The retreat's sale isn't happening in isolation. CRE Solutions has also brought nine homesites of 5+ acres and one 35-acre homesite to market nearby in Sedalia, priced around $4 million altogether, according to CRE Solutions. Business manager Steve Bell has described good five-acre suburban lots in Douglas County as few.
For now, the retreat itself isn't going anywhere. Sacred Heart continues to offer retreats ranging from a single day to several nights, according to its own site, sacredheartretreat.org, and officials have said the facility will keep operating once the renovation work and land sales are complete.
