A man driving a white 2019 Jeep Compass was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle collided with a Double Eagle semi-truck on Hesperia Road in Victorville early Friday morning, shutting down a stretch of Hesperia Road for hours. The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
The collision happened on Hesperia Road north of Nisqualli Road and south of Ottawa Street, according to VVNG, which cited Victorville sheriff's spokesperson Gloria Orejel for details on the scene. Hesperia Road remained closed between Green Tree Boulevard and Nisqualli Road as crews worked the crash site.
The Victorville Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash and says it will release additional information as it becomes available, per the outlet's report. Victorville contracts its municipal policing through the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, an arrangement dating back to 1962.
Other Serious Crashes Along Hesperia Road
Hesperia Road has seen other serious crashes recently. In October 2025, a 68-year-old Apple Valley man died along the corridor after a high-speed vehicle overturned at D Street and triggered a multi-car chain-reaction collision, the same outlet reported at the time. Just weeks before Friday's fatal crash, on August 22, a motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and required an emergency medical helicopter airlift after colliding with a pickup truck on Hesperia Road at Wynona Street, just north of Nisqualli Road.
The closure zone also sits close to the scene of a deadly crash 19 days earlier. On September 20, a multi-vehicle collision at Nisqualli Road and Eleventh Avenue killed one person and injured six others, shutting the roadway down in both directions, as Hoodline previously reported.
State Rules Govern Truck Speed
State Rules Govern Truck Speed California law sets speed limits for heavy trucks like the one involved in Friday's crash. Under California Vehicle Code Section 22406, commercial vehicles with three or more axles are capped at 55 mph statewide regardless of posted speed limits, according to FindLaw.
Whether the speed rule factored into Friday's collision has not been addressed by investigators. The Jeep was heading west and the semi-truck east before they collided. The crash site was on Hesperia Road north of Nisqualli Road and south of Ottawa Street.
Proposed Development
A proposal for an independent station at Green Tree Boulevard and Hesperia Road has been made.
No further details about the identity of the Jeep driver or the circumstances leading up to the collision have been released as the investigation continues.
