A new Shake Shack is coming to Highway 280 in Hoover, with the burger chain targeting an early 2027 opening at 5348 Highway 280. The location will be built as part of a larger mixed-use development that also includes Chipotle, FirstBank, a Learning Experience daycare and 124 townhouses.
The Hoover restaurant will mark Shake Shack's second Alabama location, according to AL.com, joining the chain's existing Birmingham restaurant at The Summit. Terra Equities, the developer behind the mixed-use project, is handling the build-out of the space, according to 280living.com. That outlet reports the Hoover building — referred to as the Cahaba Pointe location — is projected to run about 3,100 square feet and will include a drive-through, with an opening targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
More Alabama Locations Already In the Pipeline
Hoover isn't the only Alabama market getting a Shake Shack. The chain has at least three more Alabama locations planned, at the Shoppes at District 31 in Alabaster, Tanger Outlets in Foley, and Bridge Street in Huntsville, per the same AL.com report. In Alabaster, construction on the new restaurant is already underway, according to ABC 33/40, though an opening date there has not yet been announced. That location will be the chain's first in Shelby County, according to the Shelby County Reporter.
In Huntsville, Shake Shack is planning a 3,400-square-foot restaurant at Bridge Street Town Centre in 2027, according to the Huntsville Business Journal. The Foley location, meanwhile, is set to anchor a new dining district at Tanger Outlets spanning roughly 20,000 square feet that could eventually hold up to eight restaurant concepts, according to a separate AL.com report from August. That same report described Foley as Shake Shack's third Alabama restaurant, while Fox 10 described it as the chain's second — an inconsistency that remains unresolved across coverage of the burger chain's Alabama rollout.
A Burger Chain Scaling Up Nationwide
The Alabama expansion fits into a broader national growth push. Shake Shack now operates more than 200 locations across the United States, per AL.com, and the chain opened 11 new restaurants in August alone, including four that debuted on the same day in four different states, according to MLive. MLive also reported that Shake Shack has set a goal of operating at least 1,500 restaurants, and separately cited a figure of more than 685 locations system-wide — a number not clearly reconciled with the 200-plus U.S. figure cited elsewhere.
Shake Shack's origin story also varies depending on the source. AL.com's October report traces the chain's founding to New York City in 2004, while an earlier AL.com story on the Foley opening described Shake Shack as beginning life as a hot dog stand in New York City in 2001. Either way, the brand has clearly found its footing well beyond Manhattan, with four Alabama outposts now in motion along Highway 280, in Alabaster, Foley and Huntsville.
