Silco Fire & Security has broken ground on a $6.4 million facility in Bullitt County that will consolidate its Louisville-area operations under one roof and support its existing workforce as the company chases growing demand. The project is expected to create 20 new Kentucky jobs within the next three years, with the potential to reach 64 total jobs down the road, and construction is slated to wrap up in fall 2027.
According to Lane Report, the new site will consolidate Silco's Louisville-area operations and support 45 existing employees already on staff. The same report notes the facility is meant to give the company additional space and resources to meet growing demand, as detailed by WDRB+WAVE. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced the $6.4 million investment, and the facility will bring together the company's Louisville-area teams under one roof.
Governor Touts Jobs and Momentum
Beshear framed the project as part of a broader pattern of reinvestment by Kentucky employers. He said companies' continuing reinvestment in employees and communities supports the commonwealth's historic economic momentum, and added that business expansion projects create quality job opportunities for Kentuckians when businesses receive the resources and support they need.
The governor also pointed to the long-term upside of the project, saying the 64 jobs tied to the investment will add to the region's strong workforce, and that he looks forward to Silco's future success in Kentucky. It's worth noting that job figures tied to the project have varied across reporting: the state's economic development office described the project in a search listing as creating 64 full-time jobs, while the fuller account from the same report puts the near-term figure at 20 new jobs within three years, with 64 as a future potential total.
A Company Built Through Acquisition
Silco has operated for more than 65 years and now serves more than 45,000 customers across several states and the greater Detroit area, the Lane Report account notes. Its commercial fire protection and security services include fire extinguishers, exit and emergency lighting, fire alarms, sprinkler systems and security cameras. Since 2023, the company has grown by acquiring multiple fire protection and security businesses in the region, per the same account.
The Bullitt County groundbreaking also echoes an earlier chapter in Silco's local expansion plans. Pioneer Village city council previously voted to support Silco's attempt to purchase 5.5 acres along John Harper Highway, with that earlier proposal estimated to cost more than $5 million in construction. That report had also indicated the facility would provide 24 jobs upon opening with a maximum future total up to 64 — a different near-term figure than the 20 jobs cited in the later announcement — and described plans for a small manufacturing portion dedicated to the sprinkler system. The available reporting does not make clear whether that earlier site and the facility that just broke ground are the same project or a revised one.
Part of a Busier Bullitt County
Silco's groundbreaking adds to a string of development activity in Bullitt County. The county has also been the site of a planned Averitt logistics expansion, which Beshear's office described as part of a distribution and logistics sector that continues to help fuel the state's economy and create jobs. That Averitt project was reported as a $113 million logistics campus expected to create 64 jobs, according to WDRB.
Elsewhere in the state, similar groundbreakings have been making headlines this year, including AKFA Aluminum's new Bowling Green facility, which was described as bringing 331 Kentucky jobs. For Bullitt County, though, the Silco project represents a more modest but still meaningful addition — one meant to bring scattered Louisville-area teams together and give the company room to keep growing as it serves tens of thousands of customers across the region.
