A Silver Alert was issued for 79-year-old Earl Sanders, who was last seen on foot near 3300 Live Oak St. in Houston at 8 p.m. Monday. His clothing description was unknown at the time the alert went out, leaving investigators and family with few details to go on as they search for him.
The alert was issued by the Texas Center for the Missing on behalf of the Houston Police Department, according to a post from TX Center 4 Missing
shared Wednesday afternoon. The organization's post gave Sanders's last known location as the 3300 block of Live Oak Street, in the 77004 zip code, and noted that he was traveling on foot at the time he was last seen. Anyone with information on his current whereabouts is asked to call the Houston Police Department at 832-394-1840.
What the Alert Does and Doesn't Say
The post from the organization's social account is notably sparse on description, stating plainly that Sanders's clothing was unknown at the time it was published. No other identifying details, such as his physical appearance or possible direction of travel, were included in the alert. The alert provided limited information for people looking for him.
The Houston Regional Silver Alert System, administered by the Texas Center for the Missing, covers the broader Houston-Galveston region, spanning 14 counties according to the organization. The local alert program itself dates back more than a decade, having been funded in October 2014 through contributions from community members and local foundations, per the same organization's website.
Part of a Statewide System
Texas's Silver Alert program was created by state legislation in 2007, designed to notify the public about missing people, including those with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Sanders's case joins a string of recent Silver Alerts issued in the Houston area in just the past few weeks. Earlier in October, a Silver Alert went out for a 78-year-old Houston man last seen in southwest Houston, as reported by Click2Houston, and an alert was marked “[FOUND]” Tuesday for 78-year-old Henry Iyamu, last seen in Missouri City, according to The Katy News.
Last month, Harris County issued a Silver Alert for 91-year-old Ralph Ramsey, who had a cognitive impairment and was last seen in the 600 block of Highway 6 in Valley Mills; he may have been traveling in a maroon 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis, according to 12newsnow.com. Whether Sanders's case shares any circumstances with those recent alerts hasn't been established, and his current whereabouts remain unknown as of the latest post.
Anyone with information about Earl Sanders is urged to contact the Houston Police Department directly. The Texas Center for the Missing, which describes its mission as bringing hope and healing to missing people and their families, continues to share updates on active cases through its social media channels.
