Simpsonville police have increased security at Heritage Park and other parks across the city after officers received a report that a woman approached a child and tried to take them. Police say they were unable to confirm the allegation, but they are not taking any chances while they look into it.
According to WSPA, officers were notified of a suspicious woman at Heritage Park following claims that she approached a child and attempted to take them. Police described the woman as wearing a black-and-white striped shirt and black leggings, and said she was accompanied by a man. Despite the alarming nature of the allegation, investigators said they were unable to corroborate the report.
What Police Could Not Confirm
As reported by WYFF, the woman was described by police as a white female, and the man she was with as a large Hispanic male. The Simpsonville Police Department has not verified the identities of either person, and the station's report notes that officers were simply notified that a suspicious person was in and around Heritage Park Thursday.
Because the allegation could not be corroborated, it remains an unverified report rather than a confirmed incident. The same account indicates that no further details about the exact circumstances of the alleged encounter have been released by investigators.
Extra Patrols Citywide
Per Fox Carolina, security has been increased at Heritage Park after the Thursday report of a suspicious person, and that heightened presence has extended well beyond that single location. The outlet notes that increased security has also been added to other parks throughout Simpsonville, a sign that the department is treating the report seriously even without independent confirmation.
Simpsonville police have asked residents who notice suspicious activity in city parks to report it to authorities. With the allegation still unverified, the added patrols stand as the clearest public response so far to a report that has unsettled parents and park-goers across the city.
