Six years have passed since Joshua Terry, a 41-year-old Cedarburg resident, was shot and killed alongside I-43 near Northwoods Road in the Town of Port Washington, and the person responsible has never been identified. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office marked the anniversary this week with a renewed public appeal, asking anyone with information to come forward.
Terry was traveling northbound on I-43 on Oct. 30, 2020, after getting on the highway at Highway 32 in Grafton, driving a white 2013 Kia Optima, according to ozaukeepress.com. Investigators believe a minor traffic incident may have occurred between Terry's vehicle and another vehicle somewhere between Saukville and Port Washington, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office on Facebook. Both vehicles are believed to have pulled over onto the shoulder before the shooting.
Terry was shot after exiting his vehicle, and the other driver left the scene, per wisn.com. Officers believe his white Kia Optima made contact with another car before the shooting, according to a report from cbs58.com. Ozaukee Dispatch received the first of several 911 calls at 6:42 p.m. that evening, and the first responding officers arrived four minutes later, at 6:46 p.m., the Ozaukee Press report notes.
A Case With Leads But No Suspect
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office has not identified the person or persons involved in Terry's death, and investigators say they still have not connected their evidence to any particular person. Despite having leads and persons of interest, officers acknowledged to the same CBS 58 report that the case remains unresolved: “we have not been able to connect our evidence to any particular person.”
Authorities have renewed their call for help in finding the person who killed Terry, the Ozaukee Press report states. The sheriff's office is specifically asking anyone who knew someone acting differently, or whose car had unexplained damage around the time of the shooting, to come forward, per the CBS 58 account. Investigators have also said they continue to examine video footage from transportation and other cameras in search of clues, according to gmtoday.com.
Family's Reward Fund Still Stands
Joshua Terry's family established a reward fund for information leading to a suspect's arrest, and it remains available today. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, in its Facebook post, cited the fund at $15,000, a figure also referenced in the CBS 58 report. An earlier GM Today report on Terry's funeral had described a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer; the discrepancy between the two figures has not been resolved.
Descriptions of Terry's military background have also varied across coverage. The sheriff's office's Facebook post identifies him as an Air Force veteran, while the GM Today report described him as a U.S. Army veteran. Those accounts have not been reconciled.
How To Submit A Tip
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone directly involved in the incident to contact investigators and share their account, and tips can be submitted anonymously. The department can be reached by phone at 262-284-7172 or by email at [email protected]. The sheriff's office also asked the public to share its post in hopes of reaching someone who might recognize a detail from that October evening along I-43.
