Columbus starts Thursday clear and near 63 degrees, then climbs to a summery 87 before the weather hits the reset button. The city gets one more warm, mostly sunny day before rain and sharply cooler temperatures move in Friday.
Warmth Peaks Thursday Afternoon
Thursday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 87 and south winds between 5 and 12 mph. Afternoon gusts could reach around 20 mph, but rain chances remain essentially zero through the day, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain Arrives Before Friday’s Commute
Clouds will thicken Thursday night, with a slight chance of showers after about 5 a.m. Friday. Periods of rain are then expected through late Friday afternoon, with a high near 71 and rainfall totals generally between one-half and three-quarters of an inch, plus locally higher amounts possible.
A brief heavy downpour or an embedded rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out as the front crosses central Ohio. Drivers and anyone with outdoor plans should expect wet roads and reduced visibility at times, even though no watches, warnings or advisories are posted.
Weekend Weather Rebounds Quickly
Friday night turns partly cloudy and much cooler, with temperatures falling to around 50 degrees. Saturday looks like the payoff for surviving the rain, bringing sunny skies and a high near 68, followed by a mostly sunny Sunday with a high around 72.
Fall Chill Takes Over Next Week
The cooler pattern sticks around into early next week, with sunny highs near 66 Monday and 64 Tuesday before temperatures recover to around 70 Wednesday. Monday night could dip to about 42 degrees, and patchy frost may develop in some areas by Tuesday morning.
The updated outlook is a more decisive wet-weather turn than the earlier Columbus forecast, which had placed Friday’s rain chances lower and later. Hoodline’s earlier forecast called for showers mainly after Friday afternoon, while the latest forecast now points to widespread rain beginning overnight and continuing through Friday.
