A man walking through South Philadelphia early Sunday morning was sucker-punched so hard he was knocked to the ground, and surveillance video shows his attacker laughing as he casually walked away. Police are now asking the public to help identify the suspect.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the victim was walking in the 1000 block of Reed Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 when the suspect punched him in the face or neck, knocking him to the ground. The department released surveillance footage of the encounter as part of its search for the man responsible.
The incident unfolded at the intersection of 10th and Reed streets, as reported by NBC10 Philadelphia. Video reviewed by the station shows the suspect crossing the intersection before throwing the punch that sent the victim to the pavement.
Suspect Laughed Before Walking Off
What stands out most in the footage, according to the station's report, is what happened immediately after the attack. The suspect is seen laughing as he continued walking northbound on 10th Street, seemingly unbothered by what he had just done, leaving the victim on the ground behind him.
As 6abc Philadelphia noted in its coverage of the released footage, investigators have not made any arrests in connection with the assault. The suspect's identity remains unknown, and police have not released a description beyond what is visible in the video itself.
How To Submit A Tip
Philadelphia police have advised residents not to approach the suspect if spotted and instead to contact 911 immediately, per the department's own account. Anyone with information about the man's identity or whereabouts is asked to call 215.686.TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip electronically.
The case remains an active investigation out of the department's 3rd District, with no further details released about the extent of the victim's injuries or his identity. Police continue to rely on the public's help in tracking down the man seen laughing off the assault on camera.
