A 25-year-old Spring Garden man is facing seven charges after investigators say they raided his home on County Road 793 as part of an ongoing child sexual abuse material investigation that has now drawn in authorities from another state. Jacob Wheeler was taken into custody and booked into the Cherokee County Jail on Oct. 22, and he now also faces active warrants out of Georgia tied to child sex crimes.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, investigators identified Wheeler as a suspect in an ongoing Internet Crimes Against Children investigation before moving in on his Spring Garden residence. Authorities executed both arrest and search warrants at the home, with the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force assisting in the operation, as reported by WBMA.
Wheeler is charged with seven counts of possession with intent to disseminate child sexual abuse material in Cherokee County, per the station's reporting.
Georgia Ties Surface During Investigation
The case took an added dimension when investigators learned that Georgia authorities had reached out to their Cherokee County counterparts. Officials there discovered that Wheeler also has active warrants in Georgia related to child sex crimes.
Investigators say the case remains open, and they have not ruled out filing additional charges against Wheeler as the investigation continues, the outlet reported. No information has been released identifying any alleged victims or describing the material involved in the case.
