The water is flowing and the lights are back on at the Spring Hill Waterfall, the roadside landmark at Spring Hill Drive and U.S. 19 that has anchored the community since 1967. After weeks of landscaping work, paver sealing and sign restoration, Hernando County announced the beautification project is complete and the fountain is once again running.
“💧 The water's flowing, the lights are on, and a familiar landmark has a fresh new look!” Hernando County Government announced in a Facebook post Thursday. The county had previously said the waterfall, located at 5281 Spring Hill Drive, would be out of service for approximately three weeks while Hernando County Facilities tackled tree removal, palm trimming, pressure washing, brick sealing and general cleanup around the site, according to a notice posted on the county's website.
Volunteers and Local Businesses Pitch In
The refresh wasn't just a county job. Local businesses, volunteers and county crews all had a hand in restoring the landmark, with Gina and Jason Calhoun of Clean Pro Motor Sports powder coating the Spring Hill letters that sit atop the fountain. The county's beautification notice confirmed that the materials and labor for that powder coating were donated by Clean Pro Motor Sports.
Nicholas Smith of the Dura Guard team cleaned and sealed the waterfall's pavers, while Nicholas Fraioli of Dynamic LED provided new lighting around and on the waterfall itself. John and Lynne Herick refreshed the surrounding landscaping, and Hernando County crews removed trees and repainted the pond area as part of the broader cleanup.
The sign letters themselves had been missing for about two months before the project wrapped, leaving the waterfall blank, as the Hernando Sun reported earlier in October. The newly powder-coated letters were color-matched to the sign's original, pre-faded shade of blue, part of an effort described by the outlet as intended to keep the landmark true to its original self.
A Landmark With Decades of History
The waterfall dates back to 1967, completed alongside the establishment of Spring Hill itself, per the Hernando Sun's reporting. The Spring Hill Garden Club currently maintains the waterfall.
Unveiling Expected Before the Holidays
County officials had indicated an official unveiling was expected before the 2026 holidays, the Hernando Sun reported. For now, the fountain that has marked the entrance to Spring Hill for nearly six decades is once again lit, flowing and wearing its refreshed blue letters along U.S. 19.
