A 41-year-old Springwater man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for crimes against a teenage girl, a term that will be served on top of the 23-year state sentence he already received this year. Patrick J. Steinmetz now faces a combined 53 years behind bars, according to court proceedings covering both his federal and Livingston County cases.
A federal jury convicted Steinmetz of two counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, according to wellsvillesun.com. The outlet reports his federal sentence will run consecutive to the 23-year New York State sentence he already received, meaning he will serve both terms back to back rather than at the same time.
Court proceedings described a case built on a forensic review of a cellphone that, per the same account, recovered video of Steinmetz sexually assaulting the girl. The victim reported she was sexually assaulted by Steinmetz on a weekly basis for roughly nine months starting in the summer of 2023, when she was 15 years old, as reported by hornellsun.com.
State Jury's Verdict Covered Separate Charges
On the state side, a Livingston County jury found Steinmetz guilty of using a child in a sexual performance, two counts of aggravated patronizing a minor for prostitution, and two counts of criminal sexual act, according to 13WHAM-TV. Prosecutors said those state charges stemmed from incidents involving the young victim in July and August 2023, as well as January and March 2024.
A judge separately sentenced Steinmetz to 15 years of post-release supervision in connection with the state case, per WHEC. That supervision period will follow his eventual release from prison, once both the state and federal terms have been served.
Suspect Was Found at Rochester Home After Leaving Hospital
13WHAM-TV's report also notes that Steinmetz was at one point taken into custody again after he was found at a Rochester home, having left Strong Memorial Hospital while temporarily released under a court order for medical treatment. He was taken back into custody there without incident, the station reported.
A separate report from thedailynewsonline.com put the full scope of the punishment plainly, stating that Steinmetz will ultimately serve 53 years in prison for child pornography and repeated sex crimes against a teen girl, combining both the state and federal sentences imposed against him this year.
