Sprouts Farmers Market has signed a lease for a new store at 4600 Street Road in Bensalem, marking the specialty grocer's first location in Bucks County. The store is scheduled to open in the first half of 2027, replacing three office buildings that currently sit on the roughly 8.5-acre Trevose Corporate Center property.
Sprouts confirmed the signed lease on October 6, 2026, according to bensalemweekly.com, which first reported on the project. Project records describe the planned store as approximately 23,300 square feet; the property owner's attorney told township council it would be smaller than a typical Giant or Acme, according to the same report. Property-owner attorney Matthew McHugh said construction is anticipated to start in spring 2027 once PennDOT approvals have been obtained, the outlet reported.
The redevelopment goes beyond the grocery store itself. Plans call for demolishing the three existing office buildings at the Trevose Corporate Center to make way not just for Sprouts but also a 12,600-square-foot building for shops and restaurants and a separate 2,450-square-foot drive-through coffee shop, the Bensalem Weekly report detailed. Bensalem Township Council approved the preliminary and final development plan by a 4-0 vote on October 27, 2025, with six waivers granted as part of that approval.
What Shoppers Can Expect
Sprouts focuses on fresh, natural and organic foods, and also offers ready-to-eat lunch options such as sushi, deli sandwiches and wellness bowls, according to USA Today. The chain's stores are built around fresh produce in an open layout, and organic products make up more than 30% of its overall sales, per the Bensalem Weekly account.
As 94.5 PST reports, Sprouts is known for its peak-season produce and caters to shoppers following paleo, keto, plant-based, gluten-free, non-GMO or exclusively organic diets. Sprouts currently operates eight locations in Pennsylvania and eight in New Jersey, including four in Philadelphia, according to the station's reporting. The closest existing Sprouts store to Bensalem is at Roosevelt Mall on Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
A Grocer on the Grow
The Bensalem lease adds to a busy stretch for Sprouts, which had 490 stores across 25 states as of late June, per the Bensalem Weekly report. The company told USA Today it was on track to open 42 new stores in 2026, including 24 between that story's publication and the end of the year, following 37 new locations that opened in 2025. USA Today also reported that Sprouts operated more than 480 stores across 25 states and planned to open its 500th location in September.
Elsewhere in the region, Sprouts has a Hamilton Township, New Jersey, location set to open November 6, according to 94.5 PST's reporting. Other Pennsylvania Sprouts stores operate in Dresher, Lansdale, Limerick and York, the station noted. The company's newer locations, including the Bensalem project, reflect a shift toward a smaller-format, roughly 23,000-square-foot footprint built around what Progressive Grocer described as a bright and airy farmers market experience.
Why a Smaller Grocer Can Still Undercut Prices
Shoppers weighing whether a specialty grocer like Sprouts can compete on price have some outside data points to consider. A Consumers' Checkbook survey conducted in the San Francisco Bay Area found Sprouts prices running 10% to 15% below the all-store average, while Trader Joe's came in about 22% below, according to the Bensalem Weekly report. That comparison was drawn from a different market than Bucks County, but it offers a reference point for what a leaner-format grocer's pricing position can look like against conventional supermarkets.
Separately, Bensalem Township Council's October 27, 2025, meeting minutes made a traffic impact fee a condition of approval for the project but did not state the fee amount. The broader timeline for when PennDOT approvals will be finalized, and when construction will ultimately wrap, has not yet been detailed publicly.
