A 60-year-old man from St. Charles was pronounced dead at the scene after a four-vehicle crash on northbound Missouri Route 185 in Washington County on Friday evening, with three other people, including a 7-year-old girl, injured.
According to KSDK, the crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday on Route 185 north of Hamilton Hollow Road, and a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report attributes the chain-reaction wreck to a Ram 1500 driver who attempted to pass a Volvo XC90 by entering the southbound lane. That Ram 1500 was traveling north when it collided head-on with an oncoming Jeep Liberty, the station reports, sending the Jeep off the west side of the road and the Ram off the east side.
Driver Killed, Child Among the Injured
The Jeep's driver, the 60-year-old St. Charles man, died at the scene, while his passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, per the same report. The Ram driver, a 31-year-old man from Potosi, suffered moderate injuries, and his passenger, a 7-year-old girl, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the station notes.
Separately, First Alert 4 reports the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on northbound Route 185 north of Hamilton Hollow Road and confirms that First Alert 4 the 60-year-old man driving the Jeep died.
Volvo and Pickup Pulled Into the Pileup
The collision didn't stop with the head-on impact. The Volvo XC90 struck debris from the initial crash and began slowing down, after which a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 failed to notice the Volvo slowing and crashed into the back of it, First Alert 4's account states. Despite the added impact, the Volvo's 56-year-old driver and the Silverado's 18-year-old driver did not report any injuries, and KSDK's report lists no other injuries beyond the four occupants of the Jeep and Ram.
The crash report cited by KSDK was issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Not the First Crash on This Stretch
Friday's wreck wasn't the only serious collision reported on Route 185 in Washington County this year. In September, a separate rear-end collision involving a Nissan Sentra and a Ford Explorer was reported on the same roadway, according to Sweet Law. That crash left both drivers with moderate injuries, and they were transported to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital, the law firm's account notes. The two incidents are not described as part of any broader pattern, but both highlight the risks drivers face on Route 185.
