A man carrying a fake New York driver's license walked out of a Ravena bank with $9,000 last month, and State Police are now asking the public to help figure out who he is. Investigators say he then went for another $9,000 at a second bank in the Capital Region with a different phony ID, but that attempt fell flat. The case has been widened into a multi-jurisdictional grand larceny and criminal impersonation investigation.
Authorities released an announcement Tuesday seeking to identify the man, according to NEWS10 ABC. The station reports that authorities said the suspect withdrew the $9,000 from Bank of Greene County in Ravena on September 25, using a fraudulent New York State driver's license. The crimes took place at two banks in the Capital Region, per State Police.
A Second Bank, a Second Fake ID
The same day, the suspect also tried to pull $9,000 from Arrow Bank in the Town of Glens Falls. In its own release, the New York State Police said he used a fraudulent military VA identification card for that attempt, “but was unsuccessful.”
So the tally, as police lay it out, is one successful withdrawal and one that did not go through, each for the same amount. The two banks are in Ravena and the Town of Glens Falls, and police describe the case as a multi-jurisdictional investigation.
