A long-vacant car dealership on the edge of Southampton Village is about to become a hub for family medicine, cardiology and vascular care. Stony Brook Medicine hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 6 for its newest multidisciplinary practice at 630 Hampton Road, with the facility expected to open to the public in November.
The new practice will bring family medicine, cardiology, and vascular services all at one convenient location, according to Stony Brook Medicine. The ceremony drew leadership from Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Meeting House Lane Medical Practice, as well as Southampton Village Mayor William Manger Jr., according to the James Lane Post.
Six Physicians, Three Specialties Under One Roof
The practicing physicians set to see patients at 630 Hampton Road will include Dr. Sabrina Trammel in family medicine, according to Stony Brook Medicine's announcement. Cardiology will be handled by Dr. Gunjan Joshi, Dr. Dhavel Patel and Dr. JP Reilly, while vascular surgery falls to Dr. Gurpreet Gill and Dr. Stefanos Giannopoulos, the same release states.
William Wertheim, executive vice president of Stony Brook Medicine, said the project represents another meaningful step in our commitment to expanding access to high-quality care across the East End. By bringing more clinical services into the community on the South Fork, we are making it easier for patients to access medical care, he said, per the announcement. The release also notes that patients will benefit from being part of Stony Brook Medicine's integrated academic healthcare system, with clinicians collaborating on individual treatment plans.
What's Inside the Former Dealership
The building itself is getting a substantial clinical buildout. The new practice consists of 14 traditional exam rooms, a bariatric exam room, stress-test and echocardiogram rooms, and an imaging room equipped with MyoSPECT, per the same announcement. MyoSPECT is a cardiac-dedicated nuclear medicine imaging system used to evaluate heart anatomy, blood flow and cardiac function, the release explains. A wheelchair-accessibility ramp is also part of the design.
A Stalled Redevelopment Finally Finds a Tenant
The site has a complicated history. As 27east.com has reported, Stony Brook Medicine is planning to move into the long-vacant former car dealership at 630 Hampton Road, where it plans to offer primary and specialty care, including cardiology services. The property's owner had purchased it from the Glennon family in 2018 for $4.5 million, according to the outlet, after an earlier plan to make the site the flagship location of The Spur fizzled out, ending in litigation in 2019.
The Southampton location builds on a broader relationship between the university and the South Fork's hospital system. Southampton Hospital became a member of the Stony Brook Medicine health system and was renamed Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, now providing care under Stony Brook University Hospital's New York State operating license, according to Stony Brook Medicine's earlier announcement on the merger. That transaction was intended to improve healthcare quality and access, coordinate care and improve efficiency for patients through shared resources, the university said at the time.
