A Subaru overturned in a two-vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound in Paramus on Friday morning, leaving one person with a non-life-threatening upper-body injury. The wreck happened near Midland Avenue, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and forcing traffic down to two southbound lanes while crews worked to clear the scene.
According to Daily Voice, the injured victim was transported by Paramus EMS to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. Paramus police, Paramus EMS and Paramus Fire Department Engine Company No. 3 all responded to the scene, the outlet reported.
Hydraulic Lift Needed to Right Overturned Sedan
Crews called in a tow truck equipped with a hydraulic lift to turn the four-door Subaru sedan upright before it could be removed from the roadway, per the same account. The other vehicle involved, a four-door Toyota sedan, sustained damage light enough that it did not need to be towed from the scene.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, the report noted. Photos from the scene were credited to Boyd A. Loving, who documented the aftermath as the Subaru sat overturned along the southbound lanes.
Second Paramus Route 17 Crash This Year Ended in Charges
Friday's crash was not the only serious wreck to hit this stretch of highway this year. On April 28, Paramus police responded to a separate two-vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound near the Ridgewood Avenue exit, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Investigators in that case determined the driver of a 2015 Audi was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control while attempting to change lanes before colliding with a 2019 Jeep, the prosecutor's office said. A joint investigation concluded the driver had been attempting to race another vehicle at the time of the crash.
The prosecutor's office said Aiden C. Perez was ultimately charged with second-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree assault by auto and related motor-vehicle offenses in connection with the April crash. Perez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court and was later released pending further court action, the office said.
No such charges have been announced in Friday's crash, and investigators have not yet said what caused the Subaru to overturn.
