The Summerville Orchestra will present “The Fellowship of Dance” at Summers Corner Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7. The orchestra’s event listing gives Friday’s start time as 7 p.m.; Holy City Sinner reports a 7:30 p.m. start. Saturday’s performance is listed from 3 to 5 p.m. The venue is at 318 Gnarly Oak Lane in Summerville.

Friday’s performance will include American Sign Language interpretation. Interpretation for Saturday is available upon request, according to the orchestra’s show page.

Program and soloist

The program features works by Johann Strauss II, Anna Clyne, Howard Shore and Edvard Grieg. Among them are Strauss’s music associated with Vienna’s ballroom tradition, Shore’s selections from the “Lord of the Rings” films and Grieg’s music for “Peer Gynt.” The orchestra’s show page says the Shore selections mark the 25th anniversary of the film trilogy’s release.

Brazilian American cellist Gabriel Martins, who lives in Charleston, will perform Clyne’s “DANCE.” The orchestra says the work is inspired by Rumi’s poetry and has five movements tied to lines from the poet. Holy City Sinner reports that the score also calls for a wind machine.

Martins won the Sphinx Competition and the Concert Artists Guild/Young Classical Artists Trust Grand Prize in 2020, according to Holy City Sinner. His Charleston residence is noted in his biography.
