Norfolk is waking to mostly clear skies and temperatures in the mid-50s Saturday, with a partly sunny afternoon ahead. The catch for waterfront plans is a Coastal Flood Advisory that remains in effect through noon, with shallow flooding possible near low-lying shorelines and tidal waterways.
Waterfront Flooding Lingers Through Noon
The National Weather Service says water could reach up to 1 foot above ground in the most vulnerable areas around Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Portsmouth. Some waterfront roads, parking lots, parks and lawns may see nuisance flooding, so drivers should allow extra time, avoid barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth, according to the National Weather Service.
Cool, Breezy Afternoon Ahead
Rain is unlikely Saturday, with a high near 64 degrees and northeast winds of 9 to 13 mph. Gusts could reach 21 mph, and clouds may build from late morning into the afternoon even as the forecast stays dry.
Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 53. Sunday should be mostly sunny with a high near 66 and northeast winds of 8 to 12 mph, followed by a cooler Sunday night with temperatures dipping to about 48.
Dry Stretch Builds Into Next Week
The quiet weather continues Monday and Tuesday, both with sunny skies and highs near 66. Wednesday should reach about 65, while Thursday warms to near 70 and Friday could climb to 72, with little chance of rain throughout the stretch.
For Saturday, the main concern is water near the coast rather than wet weather falling from the sky. Anyone heading toward tidal streets or waterfront lots should keep an eye on standing water and leave extra time for a slower trip.
