Jacksonville woke Thursday to mostly clear skies, mid-70s temperatures and the kind of calm that can make a wet forecast feel like someone else’s problem. That peace is temporary: showers and thunderstorms become more likely from late morning through the afternoon, with a high near 88 and a chance of locally heavy rain.
Thursday Starts Quiet, Then Storms Move In
On Thursday, October 1, a slight shower chance arrives late in the morning before storm chances build from around 11 a.m. through the afternoon. The National Weather Service Jacksonville says a few stronger storms could develop inland, with gusty winds near 40 mph and locally heavy downpours possible across Northeast Florida.
East winds will run about 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph. Rainfall could be locally heavy. Storm activity should ease around sunset, although a few showers could linger near the coast overnight as temperatures settle near 75.
Wet Weekend Sets Up A Cooler Turn
Rain chances rise sharply Friday through Sunday, reaching about 70% to 80% each day as highs remain in the upper 80s and overnight lows hover in the mid-70s. The setup favors repeated downpours, and forecasters warn that rain could pile up in spots and create localized flooding, especially where storms track over the same areas.
Rain and a possible line of storms could continue into Monday, with highs falling into the 70s Monday through Wednesday; heavy-rain potential continues near the coast through Wednesday. By Tuesday and Wednesday, northeast winds strengthen, and some storms could produce heavy rain.
Beach Plans Need A Little Extra Caution
A moderate rip-current risk continues at Northeast Florida beaches, so swimmers should stay near lifeguards and avoid entering the water when conditions turn rough. No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for Jacksonville in the latest forecast, but the week ahead could bring stronger coastal winds, rough surf and tidal flooding concerns.
