Norfolk is waking up to clear skies and a cool morning Thursday before temperatures climb to about 68 degrees under full sun. Rain is not expected, but the day comes with a less glamorous coastal-weather footnote: minor flooding remains possible near tidal waterways.
Sunny Skies Meet Coastal Flooding
The National Weather Service forecast calls for sunny conditions, a high near 68 and north winds around 10 mph. The forecast remains dry, with clear skies returning Thursday night and temperatures falling to about 52 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Thursday for vulnerable areas near Norfolk’s shorelines and tidal waterways. The NWS advisory says water could reach up to one foot above ground level in low-lying areas, including some waterfront roads, parking lots, parks and lawns.
Drivers should allow extra time where shallow water is possible and avoid barricades or roads covered by water of unknown depth. The advisory also includes coastal portions of Chesapeake, Hampton, Poquoson, Portsmouth and Suffolk, so the broader Hampton Roads waterfront is dealing with the same tidal nuisance.
Cooler, Breezier Weather Arrives Friday
Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 65, followed by a partly cloudy night with a low around 49. Northeast winds could gust as high as 22 mph, making the day feel sharper than Thursday even without much cloud cover.
Saturday stays mostly sunny with a high near 62, while Sunday brings more sunshine and a high around 64. The outlook remains dry through the middle of next week, with highs near 66 Monday, 68 Tuesday and 69 Wednesday.
