Hartford is waking up clear and chilly Tuesday morning, with temperatures near 39 degrees and a brisk north wind. Sunshine will quickly take over, pushing the high to around 64 degrees while wind gusts could reach 23 mph.
Sunny Tuesday Gives Way To A Chilly Night
According to the National Weather Service, the morning commute should stay dry, though the wind may make it feel sharper than the thermometer suggests. Skies will remain mostly clear Tuesday night as temperatures fall to about 41 degrees.
Wednesday Stays Mostly Dry As Coastal Storm Passes Offshore
The midweek forecast centers on a coastal storm expected to stay offshore late Wednesday into Thursday. That should keep the heaviest rain and roughest conditions away from Hartford; WFSB forecasts no rain for the next week.
The forecast then swings from a sunny 65 degrees Thursday to a cooler Friday, with a high near 57 and an overnight low around 40. Temperatures are expected to moderate over the weekend, with highs near 59 Saturday, 64 Sunday and 68 Monday.
How the Forecast Compares With October Norms
According to the National Weather Service, Hartford’s October 20 climate normals, based on the 1991–2020 period, are a high of 62 degrees and a low of 41 degrees. Those figures are close to the forecast highs and overnight lows in the coming days.
Frost Dates and Long-Term Warming
The climate normals above do not establish when Hartford typically experiences its first autumn freeze or how that timing varies by location. CTInsider notes that first frost refers to surface temperatures at or below 32 degrees, not air temperatures.
NOAA’s Connecticut State Climate Summary says temperatures statewide have risen almost 3.5 degrees since the beginning of the 20th century. That long-term, statewide finding is not specific to autumn and does not determine the timing of this week’s weather or a first freeze.
