Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. are bringing a one-night celebration of The CW’s long-running supernatural drama to Austin, marking the series’ 200th episode with a live event called “Supernatural Then and Now.”
According to CultureMap Austin, this is the first time Benedict and Speight Jr. are bringing the show to the stage in this format. The event is billed as a celebration of the milestone episode and will incorporate fan fiction, drawing on the series’ mythology and its fans’ storytelling.
What's On the Bill
The listing also advertises special guests connected to the 200th episode and live music, but does not name additional cast or crew members. With fan fiction and live performance on the bill, the event extends beyond a conventional panel or screening.
Venue and Ticket Details
The listing gives the venue as the State Theatre, at 719 Congress Ave. in downtown Austin. Tickets are priced at $61 and are described as available through the Austin Theatre ticketing site, which is also the online home of the Paramount Theatre.
The venue and the series’ long run
The State Theatre has its own place in Austin’s entertainment history. A City of Austin historic zoning review sheet says it was the city’s first theater designed specifically for movie screenings, built in 1935 through the conversion of the old Avenue Hotel. The review sheet also says Congress Avenue had 12 theaters in the early 20th century, when it was known as “Show Row”; the Paramount and State are the only two still operating in their original function.
The 200th episode was a milestone in a series that continued for hundreds more episodes. As the show approached its finale, Newsweek described it as on track for 327 episodes; Variety reported in 2019 that it was expected to have aired more than 320 by the finale.
The listing cautions that the schedule could change because of weather or other concerns.
