A white Chevrolet Tahoe tore through the backyard of a Killeen home and plowed straight into a bedroom where two residents were sleeping, leaving both with minor injuries late Wednesday night. The crash happened around 9:27 p.m. in the 4300 block of Blueduck Drive, and police say the driver and a passenger ran off afterward without helping anyone or sticking around to give information.
According to FOX 44 News, the Tahoe was headed westbound on Newt Drive when the driver attempted an unsafe turn, lost control of the vehicle, and ended up in the backyard of the Blueduck Drive property before slamming into the house itself. The impact was forceful enough to send the SUV directly into the residents' bedroom while they were sleeping inside.
Both residents sustained minor injuries in the collision, the outlet's report notes. The residents weren't the only ones hurt: a second passenger from the Tahoe was found injured in the roadway nearby, separate from the driver and the other passenger who had already taken off.
Residents Helped the Injured Passenger After Being Hit
In an added twist, it was the same residents whose bedroom had just been hit who stepped in to help the injured passenger left behind. Per Killeen police, the residents rendered aid to the injured passenger found in the roadway, even as they were dealing with the damage and injuries from the crash inside their own home.
Officers who responded to the scene worked to track down the fleeing driver, and according to the same report, they eventually located and arrested that person. As KWTX reported, the Killeen Police Department's traffic unit continues to investigate the crash.
What Remains Unclear
Key details about the case have not been released. It is not publicly known what charges, if any, the driver now faces, or what prompted the attempted turn that sent the SUV off the road in the first place. The extent of the damage to the home has also not been detailed beyond being described as significant.
