Tampa Bay Pre-Fest’s final edition brings the event to Bradenton after earlier stops elsewhere around the region. The two-night show is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 20–21, at Oscura, continuing a tradition that began with a much smaller gathering in Largo.
Organizer Chewy Hemphill started the unofficial Pre-Fest in 2014 with six bands at Xtra Medium, according to Creative Loafing Tampa. In 2017, New Noise Magazine reported that Pre-Fest 5 was planned for Ybor/Tampa. This year’s Bradenton edition is a distinct stop in that regional history, not the Gainesville festival itself.
A finale in a dedicated live-music venue
Oscura says it was reimagined in 2022 as a 400-capacity live-music venue, with programming that includes punk, indie, rock and hardcore. That gives the finale a defined local setting, but the venue’s stated capacity is not an attendance estimate for these shows.
The Bradenton bill includes Chicago power-pop band Time Thieves, Nashville’s The Dreaded Laramie, New York post-hardcore group Common Sage and St. Louis punk band Vallencourt, among more than a dozen acts, Creative Loafing Tampa reported. Tickets were listed as starting at $20. The coverage identifies this as the 10th and final outing; the available details here do not establish expected attendance or explain the decision to end the series.
Hemphill told Creative Loafing Tampa that he began the event because touring bands needed shows around Gainesville’s Fest. For Tampa Bay audiences, the local version also offered a way to see touring punk acts without making the trip to Gainesville, the outlet reported. Its decade-long run therefore connected a regional audience with Fest-season touring activity while taking place in different Tampa Bay venues.
