A Tuesday-night welfare check in Tampa led to a drug investigation after Hillsborough County deputies say they found more than 57 pounds of marijuana, MDMA pills and drug paraphernalia inside a River Run Drive home. The sheriff’s office says resident Jamell Peeler, 36, ran from deputies as they moved to detain him and knocked down a deputy. Peeler now faces over a dozen charges, according to the agency.
Deputies went to the River Run Drive address at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday after a caller reported hearing an argument and expressed concern, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff’s office says Peeler agreed to let deputies into his home. While there, deputies reported seeing marijuana in plain view.
Search Warrant Turns Up Pills and Paraphernalia
Deputies then obtained a search warrant. According to the sheriff’s office, the search turned up more than 57 pounds of marijuana, MDMA pills and drug paraphernalia.
The agency says Peeler ran from deputies on foot as they moved to detain him, knocking down a deputy. Deputies caught him shortly afterward, according to the sheriff’s office.
Charges Still Not Fully Detailed
The sheriff’s office says Peeler faces over a dozen charges related to the incident. A separate booking listing from hillsboroughfl.mugshots.zone confirms his arrest in Hillsborough County on Wednesday but says charge information is unavailable. The listings therefore differ on whether charges are detailed, and the discrepancy remains unresolved.
No further details on the specific charges, the identity of the original caller, or what sparked the reported argument have been released.
Florida medical-marijuana supply limit
Separately, a Florida Department of Health rule states that a 35-day supply of medical marijuana in smoking form may not exceed 2.5 ounces, according to the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use. That limit does not establish Peeler’s patient status or the charges in this case.
