A Hillsborough County man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a construction supervisor during a robbery at a Tampa townhome under construction in 2023. Shamek Carter-Bowick, now 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges tied to the killing, which took place inside the Easthaven development.

According to WFLA, Carter-Bowick and a second man, Ja’Quan Glymp, wore hard hats and face masks when they entered a townhome in the Easthaven development where the victim, a construction supervisor, was working on drywall. Per the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, the two men robbed the victim and stabbed him to death before fleeing the scene, the station reports.

Deputies Found Victim With Upper-Body Trauma

The attack happened on Nov. 25, 2023, at around 8:30 a.m., when deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stabbing in the 9200 block of Rock Harbour Way in Tampa. Deputies discovered a victim with upper-body trauma and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short while later, the sheriff's office said. As reported by Tampa Bay Times, the case stemmed from the robbery and fatal stabbing of a drywall supervisor working on a home in the Easthaven development.

Glymp, who was 34 at the time of the stabbing, was arrested shortly after the attack for his involvement in the homicide, per the sheriff's office. He was charged with first-degree murder while engaged in a robbery, along with driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled license and misuse of a temporary tag, according to the same agency's statement reported by WFLA.

Second Suspect Tracked to North Carolina

Carter-Bowick, who was 23 at the time of the killing, evaded capture for weeks before a warrant was issued on Dec. 21, 2023, charging him with robbery while wearing a mask involving a firearm or deadly weapon and armed burglary of a structure with assault or battery, the sheriff's office said. He was taken into custody that same day in Fayetteville, North Carolina, without incident.

A witness reported seeing Carter-Bowick with blood on his hands and clothes shortly after the stabbing, according to the Tampa Bay Times, which cited deputies in its account of the arrest. That detail helped investigators connect him to the scene in the weeks before his capture out of state.

Co-Defendant's Case Still Pending

Carter-Bowick's 55-year sentence closes his portion of the case, but Glymp's prosecution remains unresolved. Jury selection is currently underway in Glymp's case, and he faces life in prison if convicted, according to WFLA's reporting.
