Construction crews are reworking a former Burger King drive-thru at 11325 West Dodge Road, just southeast of 114th & Dodge, into the newest outpost of Taqueria El Rey — the South Omaha taco institution's third location in the metro. The build-out marks a notable westward leap for a restaurant group that got its start serving street tacos, tortas, burritos, and Mexican breakfasts along South Omaha's historic 24th Street corridor.
Taqueria El Rey operates a location at 5201 South 24th Street. The company opened a second restaurant at 4161 South 84th Street in June 2025, per Grow Omaha's reporting, before setting its sights on the 114th & Dodge corner.
The South 84th Street expansion also came with a regulatory step: a Class “I” liquor license application for that location was listed in December 2025 under the corporate entity Taqueria El Rey IV, LLC, according to the Omaha Daily Record.
From Fast-Food Drive-Thru to Taqueria El Rey
The West Dodge Road property sold for $1.4 million in March 2025, according to listing data from Compass Real Estate. The site previously operated as a Burger King.
Compass data associated with a listing at 14406 California Street displayed a $1.385 million median for nine comparable properties, including 2026 transactions.
