Two people were shot just after 4 a.m. near the intersection of Pardee and Wick Roads in Taylor, and the suspect police believe pulled the trigger was still on the run as of Saturday. Both victims were rushed to an area hospital and are listed in stable condition, while officers continue searching for 19-year-old Joeseph Garcia, who they say is armed with a handgun.
Police Rushed to the Scene Within Minutes
According to FOX 2 Detroit, Taylor police were called to the area at 4:12 a.m. and found two people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The outlet reported that a third person fled the scene after the shooting, and that both victims were taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police have since identified Garcia, of Taylor, as a suspect in the double shooting, per the same report. He is described as standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing roughly 135 pounds, and investigators say he was armed with a handgun when he fled. Anyone with information on Garcia's whereabouts is urged to contact the Taylor Police Department at 734-287-6611.
Conflicting Reports Swirl Around Wick and Pardee
A separate account from Metro Detroit News describes a different scenario tied to the same stretch of road, reporting that a man in his 60s was fatally shot while his sister, also in her 60s, was wounded. That outlet said the shooting happened Monday evening at a home near Wick and Pardee, and that family confirmed both victims were siblings of the suspect, who was reportedly taken into custody at the scene after an argument. It remains unclear whether that account describes the same early-morning shooting reported by FOX 2 Detroit or a separate incident entirely, and the two reports could not be independently reconciled.
Area Has Seen Shootings Before
The Wick and Pardee area has drawn police attention before. In August, a man was arrested after allegedly shooting his brother and sister at a home near Wick and Pardee, according to ClickOnDetroit. Police told the station the shooting followed a fight between the man and his girlfriend, during which his siblings tried to intervene; his brother died, and his sister was sent to a local hospital for her injuries. Taylor police arrested the man at the scene in that case, and the investigation was reported as ongoing.
CBS News Detroit has also reported separately that Taylor police were looking for a person of interest connected to a shooting over a weekend. The documented shootings near Wick and Pardee were about 14 months apart. It is not established whether that search is tied to either of the shootings described above.
As of now, it has not been verified whether Garcia has been arrested, remains at large, or faces formal charges. Taylor police are continuing to ask the public for help locating him, and anyone with information is encouraged to call investigators.
