Cognizant, the Teaneck-based tech and consulting giant, is expanding its partnership with Google Cloud through a new engineering group dedicated to pushing artificial intelligence agents out of testing labs and into everyday business use. The companies announced the move Tuesday, unveiling what they are calling the Gemini Frontier Capability Group, a unit backed by more than 18,000 Cognizant associates.

The expansion is meant to accelerate enterprise adoption of agentic artificial intelligence, according to ng.investing.com. As described by thehindubusinessline.com, the new group pairs Google's full-stack, enterprise-ready AI platform with Cognizant's domain, industry and engineering expertise, and it is designed to bridge the path from pilot to production — addressing one of the more stubborn problems in corporate AI adoption, where plenty of companies experiment with AI tools but struggle to deploy them at scale.

From Pilot Projects to Production Systems

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S framed the effort around execution rather than experimentation, saying the group will direct frontier engineering talent toward getting frontier AI into production for clients, per the same account from thehindubusinessline.com. The capability group will initially concentrate on four areas: legacy system modernization, developer experience, autonomous business-process agentification, and frontier cyber defense, according to that report.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the partnership and an accompanying Gemini skilling initiative are intended to help joint customers accelerate the adoption of autonomous agents throughout the enterprise, the outlet reported. As ROI-NJ noted in its report on the announcement, Kurian has also said scaling AI agents requires partners with architectural and integration expertise — a point that underscores why Cognizant, with its scale of engineering staff, is positioned as a key partner for Google Cloud's enterprise push.

Security Architecture and a Growing Gemini Workforce

The companies plan to deploy what they describe as standardized, security-first agentic architecture built on the Model Context Protocol and fortified by Google Cloud's Model Armor, the report states. That security backbone is meant to support a broader suite of enterprise solutions the companies expect to roll out, including a catalog support agent for retail, a Neuro San-orchestrated healthcare agentic marketplace, and multi-agent order-to-cash workflows for manufacturing, according to ROI-NJ's account of the announcement.

The new capability group builds on groundwork Cognizant has been laying for months. The company launched its dedicated Gemini practice in April 2026, the same report notes, and announced in July that it was deploying Gemini to 100,000 associates this year with plans to eventually scale that number to 200,000. More than 55,000 Cognizant associates have already completed a Build with Gemini workshop, which the company has called its largest single Gemini partner workshop to date, per ng.investing.com.

Early Results From a Retail Client

Cognizant has pointed to early returns from at least one retail client as evidence the approach can pay off. After integrating Gemini AI models across that retailer's software development lifecycle, the company said the retailer saw a 40% increase in developer productivity, a 30% reduction in time-to-market, and 35% in cost savings, according to ng.investing.com.

That retail push is not new territory for the two companies. In April, Cognizant announced the launch of Agentic Retail CX, an AI-powered contact center solution built on Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience, according to a Cognizant announcement. The company said that solution can achieve a containment rate of 70% to 85% through AI self-service tools, and noted that Ocado Retail, an online grocery and delivery company, had already leveraged Gemini Enterprise for CX to support its contact center operations.
