The Fennec, at 1630 2nd Avenue South in Birmingham’s Parkside District, is moving away from full-service dining and toward events and catering. In June, AL.com reported plans to redirect resources to catering, music and events. Bham Now reported the full-service restaurant would close and described plans for larger acts and a more intimate concert experience.
Parkside planning context
The City of Birmingham includes Parkside District among the areas covered by its Commercial Revitalization District Design Guidelines, according to the City of Birmingham. The listing establishes that Parkside is covered by the guidelines, but does not specify how they have shaped The Fennec’s role as an entertainment and event venue.
Event rooms and services
The Fennec’s website lists The Foxhole Lounge and four other spaces available for gatherings: The Fennec, The Main Stage, The Social and The Cypress. The Main Stage is a live-music and entertainment space with capacity for more than 350 people. Its features include two LED video walls, 110-inch screens, a 283-inch projector screen, a dual-sided bar and a dance floor. Bham Now gives The Social’s area as 4,822 square feet, with capacity for 375 seated guests or 500 standing.
The venue’s event page lists The Cypress as having 1,010 square feet, twelve-foot ceilings and nine-foot windows. Bham Now lists The Cypress at 50 seated or 60 standing, The Sienna at 25 to 100 people and The Foxhole Lounge at 45 seated or 55 standing. The venue’s website says the spaces are available for private celebrations and corporate events.
For food service, Bham Now says The Fennec provides customized on-site catering and beverage service, along with off-site catering that includes custom menus, delivery and setup. The venue’s website says its catering team prepares locally inspired dishes. Bham Now also reports that larger events can use audiovisual equipment and décor packages with tables, chairs, linens, china, stemware and custom lighting; valet parking and a shuttle bus are also listed.
Fall dates
Bham Now’s October report lists Snakehips on a Friday and a Halloween dance party the following night. Doors open at 8 p.m., and costumes are encouraged. The November listings are Creed Fisher on November 7, Sister Sadie on November 13, I Set My Friends On Fire on November 19, Black Stone Cherry on November 21 and Tantric on November 27. The listed November dates run from the 7th through the 27th.
The report describes a schedule that ranges across bluegrass, country, southern rock, R&B, hip-hop and karaoke. It says The Fennec is booking shows into 2027 and expects to add performances regularly. Bham Now lists fall ticket prices of $16 to $35 and reports that booking specials are available for spring and summer 2027 events.
