Three people were injured Saturday evening when a Dodge Dakota turning left off the Cumberland Parkway's eastbound off-ramp collided with a Hyundai Tucson on Burkesville Road in Glasgow, according to the Glasgow Police Department. All three occupants were taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The crash happened at the interchange where the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway meets KY 90, known locally as Burkesville Road, as it runs southeast toward Cumberland County, according to Wikipedia. As reported by WBKO, the Dodge Dakota was attempting to turn left from the off-ramp onto Burkesville Road when it collided with the Hyundai Tucson. The outlet advised drivers to stay alert at intersections and confirm the roadway is clear before proceeding, and said no further updates had been provided.
The Crash at the Interchange
Saturday's wreck involved a left-turn movement from the off-ramp onto Burkesville Road, as reported by WBKO.
Kentucky law places clear responsibility on drivers entering a roadway from an off-ramp. Under Kentucky Revised Statute 189.330, a driver entering an intersection or turning from an off-ramp control point must yield to any vehicle approaching on the main road closely enough to pose an immediate hazard, according to the Department of Criminal Justice Training. That statute governs traffic priority at state highway intersections across Kentucky, not just at Exit 14.
Treatment at Glasgow's Trauma Center
All three people hurt in the crash were brought to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, a 196-bed acute care facility and state-designated Level IV Trauma Center capable of round-the-clock trauma evaluation, stabilization, and transfer coordination, according to T.J. Regional Health. The hospital also holds Acute Stroke Ready certification. No updates on the current condition of the three occupants have been released.
Part of a Broader Pattern on KY 90
Saturday's crash adds to a string of serious incidents along the Burkesville Road corridor this year. Kentucky State Police Post 3 investigated a fatal crash on Happy Valley Road, also part of KY 90, in Glasgow in April after a pickup truck crossed the centerline into the path of an oncoming commercial truck. In response to crash clusters across the county, Post 3 launched targeted traffic safety checkpoints in September, focused on seat-belt compliance, child restraints, and impaired driving, as reported by Glasgow News 1.
State officials have also poured money into the corridor. A $14 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project launched in 2022 aims to widen and upgrade a four-mile stretch of State Route 90 east of Glasgow to improve sight lines, slope stability, and drainage, according to Bowen National Research. Statewide, Kentucky State Police reported 814 people killed in 767 fatal collisions in 2023, with male drivers accounting for more than 57% of total crash involvement.
No further details about the crash have been released, and it remains unclear what, if any, citations resulted from the collision.
