A 17-year-old boy was shoved, kicked, and robbed of his motorized scooter by three men who cornered him outside 510 Claremont Parkway around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to police. The attackers started an argument with the teen before the beating began, then fled toward Washington Avenue with his scooter and keys in hand.
According to News12 New York, the three men approached the teen and started an argument before pushing and kicking him repeatedly. EMS transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. The hospital, located at 4422 Third Avenue, is a state-designated Level II Trauma Center with round-the-clock emergency surgical capacity, according to SBH Health System, which treats roughly 100,000 emergency and trauma patients a year.
The attack happened within the footprint of the NYPD's 42nd Precinct, which is headquartered at 830 Washington Avenue and covers a 1.09-square-mile stretch encompassing Claremont, Morrisania, and Crotona Park, per the NYPD. The suspects' escape route toward Washington Avenue put them on a major north-south commercial and transit corridor just one block west of the robbery site, according to PropertyShark, which notes the avenue intersects Claremont Parkway near dense multi-family housing complexes.
A Building With a Prior Record
The commercial address at 510 Claremont Parkway isn't new to property crime. In June 2020, looters smashed through the door of a check-cashing store there and forcibly ripped out an ATM containing $12,500, a burglary that triggered a 42nd Precinct Crime Stoppers search at the time, the station's report noted.
Group robbery cases like this one carry heightened legal weight under New York law. Forcibly stealing property while aided by another person actually present constitutes Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony, under New York Penal Law § 160.10. Group thefts involving physical force trigger heightened felony penalties regardless of whether a weapon is displayed.
Part of a Pattern Targeting Teens on Scooters
This is not an isolated case. After the August Claremont attack, a 13-year-old boy was cornered and robbed of his scooter in nearby Crotona Park, two attackers threatening him with a knife before taking off with the device, as reported by News12 Bronx. Hoodline previously covered that Crotona Park scooter robbery.
Motorized scooters have become a recurring target in South Bronx street crime. A July 2025 report by the Bronx Times described a series of street robberies across the Bronx and said detectives tied the latest robbery to seven others, for eight linked incidents in all.
Crime Trends Mixed Across the Precinct
Precinct-wide numbers tell a more complicated story. NYPD CompStat data recorded 225 robberies year-to-date in the 42nd Precinct through mid-September, a 32 percent decline compared to 331 robberies reported over the same period in 2025.
Whether surveillance footage from businesses along Washington Avenue captured the fleeing suspects remains an open question for investigators. It's also unclear whether detectives are examining ties between Wednesday's attack and the string of recent scooter robberies across the precinct.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The program offers confidential tip reporting and cash rewards of up to $3,500 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in felony robbery cases.
