Three people were shot in Silver Spring early Saturday, with one victim suffering serious injuries, according to preliminary information from police. The gunfire broke out on the 11900 block of Bournefield Way, a residential stretch of the Montgomery County community, and left investigators searching for answers with no suspect in custody.
Montgomery County Department of Police 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to reports of gunfire on Bournefield Way at around 1:51 a.m., according to FOX 5 DC. Two of the three victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the third was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Investigators have not released the names or ages of any of the victims, and no update on the seriously injured victim's condition was immediately available. Police also have not shared suspect descriptions or any details about what led to the shooting, and no one is reported to be in custody. Montgomery County police say they are investigating and that more information will be released as the case develops, per the same report.
A County Watching Its Gun Violence Numbers
The shooting lands amid a broader conversation about gun violence in Montgomery County. The county recorded 24 homicides in 2025, a 20% increase from the 20 homicides counted in 2024, according to The Banner. Even with that uptick, last year's total remained well below the county's 10-year high of 36 homicides in 2021, the outlet reported.
At least 16 of the county's 24 homicides in 2025 involved firearms, The Banner's reporting found. Statewide, Maryland experienced 671 firearm fatalities in 2024 — a figure that includes homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings, according to the Maryland Department of Health.
Not the First Overnight Gunfire in the Area
Early-morning shootings have cropped up elsewhere in Montgomery County this year. In August, police released surveillance footage tied to an assault case in nearby Wheaton, in which a suspect fired at a victim's vehicle near University Boulevard West and Elkin Street. That incident occurred on August 9, a little after 2 a.m., mirroring the overnight timing of Saturday's shooting on Bournefield Way.
No arrests have been announced in either case. Montgomery County police have asked anyone with information about the Silver Spring shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
