Tractor Supply Co. is planning a new retail store along FM 306 in Canyon Lake, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The project calls for a 23,729-square-foot building with an estimated cost of $2.772 million, and construction is tentatively set to begin January 18, 2027, with completion expected by October 16, 2027.

The filing, registered under project number TABS2027004526, places the store along FM 306 in Canyon Lake, Texas 78133, according to WhatNow. The project is privately funded, and TDLR currently lists its status as Project Registered. Those dates and the cost estimate are described in the filing as preliminary and subject to change, and no official opening date has been confirmed.

TDLR paperwork names Tractor Supply Company as the project owner and lists Dianne Ford as the filing contact, the outlet's reporting notes. Oxford Architecture, based in Nashville, Tennessee, is listed as the design firm. Beyond those filing details, no further information has been released about the store's layout, staffing or opening plans.

A Familiar Build in Texas Hill Country

The Canyon Lake proposal isn't an isolated move. Tractor Supply has also filed plans for a second Georgetown location on Williams Drive, a $2.8 million project slated to begin next June and run through January 2028, according to Community Impact. That store would be the company's second in Georgetown, joining an existing location already in town.

Closer to the Hill Country, Tractor Supply has announced a $2.3 million project in Bergheim, just northwest of Boerne, per Construction Owners. That store is also 23,729 square feet — the same footprint planned for Canyon Lake — and is rising near the intersection of Texas Highway 46 and Rodalyn Drive. Construction crews there kicked off work in mid-October, with a TDLR filing from October 31 setting a planned completion of May 2026, though that date is also subject to revision. The Bergheim store is expected to complement Tractor Supply's existing Boerne location at 1530 S. Main Street.

Company Pulls Back on Growth Pace Nationwide

The Canyon Lake filing lands as Tractor Supply works through a broader shift in its store-growth strategy. The retailer operated 2,486 Tractor Supply stores across 49 states and 135 Petsense by Tractor Supply locations in 21 states at the close of its most recent quarter, according to Chain Store Age, making it, as Construction Owners describes it, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States.

Net sales rose 5.1% to $3.91 billion that quarter, with comparable-store sales up a modest 0.4% and digital sales climbing about 16%, Chain Store Age reported. Even so, the company plans to moderate new store openings in 2027 to roughly 85 to 90 locations nationwide, down from the pace described in an earlier SEC-filed annual report and proxy statement that projected around 100 new store openings in fiscal 2026. CEO Hal Lawton attributed some of the caution to broader economic pressure, telling Chain Store Age that elevated interest rates and reduced housing mobility are weighing on property improvements and larger projects.

What Canyon Lake Could Get

If built as filed, the Canyon Lake store would stock the kind of merchandise found across Tractor Supply's chain: animal feed, pet supplies, fencing, tools, hardware, lawn and garden equipment, clothing and footwear. The company positions itself as a rural lifestyle retailer serving farmers, ranchers, homeowners, pet owners and outdoor-living enthusiasts, with products spanning livestock and animal care, lawn and garden maintenance, home improvement, workwear and outdoor recreation.

Its stores often feature seasonal products and supplies geared toward rural properties, farms and acreage, serving both agricultural customers and people maintaining smaller properties, gardens and pets — a customer base that fits the mix of lake-area homesteads and ranch land surrounding Canyon Lake. For now, the FM 306 project remains in the registration stage with the state, and residents will have to wait for further filings or announcements before construction timelines firm up.
