A 58-year-old Germantown woman suffered a medical emergency while driving a 2014 Toyota south on Route 9G in Red Hook on Tuesday, sending the car across the double yellow lines and off the road, where it struck a tree that snapped at its base and crashed down on top of the vehicle, trapping her inside.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. near Lemon Lane Extension, according to NewYorkUpstate.com. The Toyota left the east side of the roadway before hitting the tree, and the impact was forceful enough to snap the tree at its base, causing it to topple directly onto the car.

Firefighters Free Trapped Driver

Firefighters worked to extricate the woman from the wreckage before she was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital, the same report states. Her injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to help manage the aftermath. Red Hook and Tivoli fire companies, Empress EMS, state police and the state Department of Transportation all assisted, per the outlet's account of the response.

Route Closed for Over an Hour

Route 9G was shut down for just over an hour while authorities investigated the crash, according to the same report. The closure allowed crews to clear the scene and remove the downed tree from atop the car before traffic could resume moving through the area.

Police said no tickets were issued in connection with the crash, according to dailyfreeman.com. Investigators have not released the woman's name, as noted by midhudsonnews.com.
