Baton Rouge is waking to clear skies Thursday before another warm afternoon, with temperatures expected to climb from the mid-50s into the low 80s. The city should stay dry today, but the forecast turns more complicated just in time for Halloween weekend.
Sunny Thursday, Warm Friday
Thursday will be sunny with a high near 83 degrees and a light northeast wind around 5 mph. Friday remains warm, reaching about 84 degrees under partly sunny skies, with east winds increasing slightly to 5 to 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 60, while Friday night turns mostly cloudy and stays mild near 66 degrees. No rain is expected for Baton Rouge through Friday, making for a favorable stretch for outdoor errands and early Halloween preparations.
Showers Could Complicate Halloween Plans
Rain chances rise Saturday, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning around 1 p.m. and continuing into the evening. Saturday’s high should reach about 84 degrees, while Saturday night remains warm and unsettled with another 40% rain chance before storms taper off before 1 a.m.
Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 84, but a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns after noon. The forecast then stays warm into Monday, while another round of showers and thunderstorms becomes possible Tuesday.
Dry Fuels Keep Fire Danger Elevated
The bigger concern Thursday is not rain but fire spread, as drought conditions, dry vegetation and low humidity combine with light to moderate winds. The weather service is urging residents to follow any burn bans and use extreme caution with grills, fire pits and other outdoor flames, even though no local alerts are posted for Baton Rouge.
