A person died Thursday night after a shooting in the 600 block of Elm Street in Troy, Alabama, and police say two people are now in custody in connection with the case. Officers rushed to the scene after a report of someone shot, found the victim wounded, and tried to save them with CPR before they died at the scene.
According to troymessenger.com, officers responded to the 600 block of Elm Street at 10:41 p.m. on Thursday after getting word that someone had been shot. A separate report from WSFA put the response time at around 10:40 p.m. that same night, a small discrepancy that hasn't been resolved in available reporting. Either way, the call sent Troy police into the neighborhood in the late evening hours, where they found someone with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers attempted CPR at the scene, but as the Troy Messenger's report notes, “those efforts were unsuccessful and the person died from their wounds.” The victim's identity has not been released publicly, and the station's report does not specify what led up to the shooting.
Two Taken Into Custody as Investigation Continues
Troy police said two people have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, per the same account. It's not yet clear what charges, if any, have been filed, and police have not released the names or roles of either person held. As AL.com also reported, the investigation into the Elm Street shooting remained active as of Friday, with neither the victim nor the two people in custody identified to the public.
Troy police have said the case is still under active investigation, and that neither the suspects nor the victim have been identified publicly at this stage. No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting have been released.
Second Fatal Troy Shooting Earlier This Month
This is not the only deadly shooting Troy has dealt with recently. Police said a separate fatal shooting happened Sunday, October 18th, in the 700 block of Hanchey Street, according to WAKA. In that case, the victim was identified as 22-year-old Rahim A. Boyd of Troy, who police said was found on the front porch of a home with a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. WAKA reported that 29-year-old Jocerria D. Jones of Troy was arrested in connection with that shooting.
No connection between the two shootings has been reported. As of the latest available reporting, the Elm Street case remains open, with Troy police continuing to investigate and no further public details released about the victim, the two people in custody, or what led to the gunfire.
