A pickup truck crashed into Frank's Shoes on Route 51 in Baldwin Borough Wednesday morning, smashing through a window and into the building. The store stayed open for business the rest of the day.
Crews Called Shortly After 9 A.M.
Allegheny County dispatchers said emergency crews were called to the shoe store in the 4900 block of Route 51 at 9:11 a.m., according to WPXI. Video from the scene, reported by WTAE, showed a flatbed truck hauling the vehicle out of Frank's Shoes in the 4900 block of what WTAE identified as Clairton Boulevard. The vehicle had smashed through a window and into the building.
Accounts differ on whether anyone was hurt in the crash. A business spokesperson told the station there were no injuries, while WTAE reported that it remained unclear whether anyone was injured or how the crash happened in the first place.
Store Stayed Open, Spokesperson Jokes About the Crash
Despite the damage, Frank's Shoes remained open for business the rest of the day. A business spokesperson had a bit of fun with the situation, telling the station, “We don't have a drive-thru for boots; please keep your trucks out of the building,” as reported by WPXI.
It is not the only crash Baldwin has dealt with recently. A separate two-vehicle crash tore through the 500 block of Glass Run Road on a Wednesday afternoon, leaving both vehicles with serious damage, the station reported. Two people were taken to the hospital from that scene, and at least one of the vehicles appeared to have caught fire, as noted by WTAE.
