Tucson woke Friday to clear skies, temperatures around 70 degrees, and wind strong enough to make an otherwise pleasant October morning a serious outdoor-planning problem. A High Wind Warning is in effect through 11 p.m. Friday, with expected gusts of 50 to 70 mph in the warning area and 55 to 70 mph in susceptible locations.
Friday will be sunny but blustery, with a high near 80. In susceptible southeast Arizona locations, east-southeast winds will be 30 to 45 mph, with gusts of 55 to 70 mph. Gusty conditions could send blowing dust across desert areas and briefly reduce visibility, while trees, power lines and unsecured outdoor items could be damaged.
High Wind Warning Runs Into Saturday Morning
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the strongest winds are expected through Friday evening, especially near mountain slopes, terrain gaps and east-west-oriented valleys. The warning ends at 11 p.m. Friday, followed by a Wind Advisory through 2 p.m. Saturday for winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 50 to 60 mph.
Friday night will stay windy and partly cloudy, with a low around 62 and gusts of 50 to 60 mph into Saturday. Residents should secure patio furniture, trash bins and other loose objects, and drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution.
Weekend Rain Chances Continue Saturday Night
Saturday will be cooler, partly sunny and still breezy, with showers and thunderstorms possible Friday and Saturday and chances ranging from 20% to 50%. The rain chance rises to 40% Saturday night, when the low will settle near 62.
Sunday brings a warmer high near 82 with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon. The unsettled pattern continues next week, with highs near 84 Monday and Tuesday, a 30% chance of showers or thunderstorms Monday, and additional rain chances Tuesday through Thursday as temperatures cool to the mid-70s by Thursday.
