A 41-year-old Tucson motorcyclist died early Saturday after running a red light and colliding with a northbound vehicle at a midtown intersection. Jose Nadir Parra was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened around 2 a.m. at East Broadway and North Campbell Avenue.
According to tucson.com, Parra was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Broadway in the median lane when he failed to stop for the red light at Campbell. He was struck by a vehicle heading north through the intersection, the outlet reports. Parra was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, per the same account.
KOLD reported a separate fatal crash near 36th and Campbell in October. It was a different incident from Parra’s June crash at Broadway and Campbell.
Nearly a Dozen Units Called to October Crash
Nearly a dozen units were called to East Cochise Vista and Campbell around 7:30 p.m. for the separate October crash, according to the Tucson Police Department's real-time event tracker, as cited by KOLD.
The crash adds to a string of recent motorcycle fatalities around Tucson. On October 12, Pima County Sheriff's deputies reopened two eastside roads, Kolb and Valencia, after a motorcycle crash that closed the intersection for several hours while deputies investigated, according to kvoa.com.
A Pattern of Fatal Crashes Without Helmets
Separately, 73-year-old Robert Clell Hatfield died days after a motorcycle crash. Kvoa.com reports Hatfield had been riding with another motorcyclist on October 3 near Silverbell and Trico roads when he lost control, hit a tree and was thrown from his bike. The Pima County Sheriff's Department said Hatfield was not wearing a helmet at the time of that crash, the outlet notes.
Statewide, motorcycle fatalities have trended downward, with Arizona recording 194 motorcyclist deaths in 2025 compared with 218 in 2024, an 11% decrease, according to azdot.gov. The figures show an overall decline in motorcycle fatalities over the same period.
No further details about the driver involved in the Broadway and Campbell crash, including whether that person was injured or faces citations, have been released.
