Two people were detained after King County sheriff's deputies pursued a Honda that crashed at the SR 599 off-ramp and Interurban Avenue in Tukwila. Deputies linked the pair to a gas station robbery and a separate armed robbery in Normandy Park.
Pursuit Ends at SR 599 Off-Ramp and Interurban Avenue
Deputies with the King County Sheriff's Office pursued a Honda, which crashed at the SR 599 off-ramp and Interurban Avenue in Tukwila. Two people were detained.
A Familiar Stretch of Road for Pursuits
Interurban Avenue in Tukwila has turned up in police pursuits before. In a separate case this past July, officers chased a robbery suspect wanted by U.S. Marshals in a stolen vehicle south on Interurban Avenue South, ultimately using a PIT maneuver to disable the car in the 18300 block, as KOMO News reported at the time. That incident is unrelated to Wednesday morning's detentions.
A Pattern Of Closely Timed Robberies
Komo News separately reported that police believed two convenience-store robberies in West Seattle were likely related given how close together they occurred, with a third robbery reported in Beacon Hill the same night.
A similar pattern turned up back in January 2020, when two King County gas stations just two miles apart were robbed at gunpoint in less than 30 minutes, according to Fox 13 Seattle. That case involved a 76 Gas Station in Tukwila and a 7-Eleven in Skyway. King County Sheriff's detectives arrested 19-year-old Yussuf M. Hassan after a tip to Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound helped identify him, and investigators said they recovered the handgun allegedly used in the robberies along with other physical evidence connecting him to the crimes.
Seattle police have also tracked broader waves of robberies targeting businesses in the city's South and Southwest neighborhoods, according to the Seattle Police Department, which described a string of such incidents in a 2024 investigation.
