A Tulsa man is facing an assault charge after police say he threw a large chunk of concrete at another man's head during a confrontation outside a tire shop, in an incident that was initially reported to officers as a stabbing. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, and officers located the attacker walking near the scene, where he admitted what he had done, according to police.
Call Reported as a Stabbing Turns Out to Be Something Else
Officers responded to the area near East 21st Street and 129th East Avenue at about 1:11 p.m. Tuesday after a call came in reporting a stabbing outside a tire shop, according to KTUL. When police arrived and began piecing together what happened, they determined the victim had not been stabbed at all — he had been struck in the head with a large chunk of concrete, per the Tulsa Police Department's account relayed to the station.
According to authorities, the victim told officers that a man had been waving a knife and yelling in the business parking lot before the victim confronted him. That confrontation is when the man allegedly picked up a large piece of concrete and threw it at the victim's head, the station's report states.
Suspect Found Walking Nearby, Admits to Throwing Concrete
Officers located the man walking near the scene of the attack, and he admitted to throwing the concrete, according to police. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a charge defined under Oklahoma law that covers assaults carried out with an object capable of causing serious injury, as outlined in state statute.
The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, per the Tulsa Police Department. His name has not been released in the coverage, and the confrontation took place at a tire shop.
Because formal charges had not yet been filed at the time of reporting, the man's name and image were withheld. Tulsa County's inmate information center is for locating people currently in jail, though no additional details on the suspect's age or background were available. It remains unclear whether charges were ultimately filed or what, if anything, happened next in court.
