Two men were left in critical condition Monday morning after a shooting at University Place Apartments in Arlington, with one victim showing up at the hospital only after a friend drove him there. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded just after 6:15 a.m. to 3285 University Blvd. North following reports that someone had been shot, and they found a chaotic scene that investigators are still working to piece together.
According to News4JAX, the first victim, a man in his early 30s, had a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken by paramedics to a hospital in critical condition. A second man, in his mid-30s, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and arrived at the hospital separately after a friend drove him there rather than waiting for an ambulance.
Second Victim Tells Police He Was Shot at Same Complex
That second man told police he was involved in the same shooting at the apartment complex, and his injuries were also listed as critical, per the station's report. While officers worked the scene, investigators detained a man found inside the apartment as they tried to determine what happened.
Investigators said it remains unclear whether the shooting was domestic-related, but added that it does not appear to involve gangs or groups, the same account notes. No further details on what led to the gunfire or who may have fired the shots have been released.
A Weekend of Violence Across Jacksonville
The Arlington shooting came just a day after two other shootings reported elsewhere in Jacksonville. Early Sunday, a juvenile boy was shot in the chest after an argument involving two groups continued from the Regency area to Mill Creek Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, as reported by News4JAX.
In a separate incident that same morning, a man in his early 20s was shot in the foot after an argument that began inside a Bay Street club spilled into a parking lot on Liberty Street North, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said, as detailed by News4JAX. Those two cases remain separate from the Arlington shooting, and no connection between the incidents has been reported.
