Two men were taken to the hospital after being stabbed outside an apartment complex near Buechel just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to police. Officers responding to the 4700 block of Fegenbush Lane found both men suffering from stab wounds, and investigators say they have not identified a suspect.
Both men were alert and conscious when EMS arrived, according to WLKY Louisville, and they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Responding officers provided first aid at the scene before EMS and fire crews transported both victims to University Hospital, Louisville's regional adult trauma center, according to WHAS11.
Witnesses Describe an Altercation, Third Person May Have Fled
Witnesses told responding officers that the stabbing stemmed from an altercation, and LMPD received a report that a third person may have been involved or targeted during the confrontation but escaped without physical injury, the station reports. Police have not publicly identified any suspects as the investigation continues.
The scene falls within the patrol jurisdiction of LMPD's Sixth Division, which is headquartered at the Park Jefferson Center on Shepherdsville Road and covers several inner-suburban neighborhoods including Buechel, Klondike, and Watterson Park, per a GovDelivery bulletin distributed by LMPD. The area is represented on the Louisville Metro Council within District 10, led by Councilwoman Josie Raymond, who took office in January 2025, according to LouisvilleKY.gov.
A Corridor With a History of Violent Crime Calls
Wednesday's stabbing adds to a pattern of violent incidents along the same stretch of Fegenbush Lane in recent years. In April, LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit investigated a shooting in the adjacent 4600 block where a man was shot in the leg inside a residence before officers arrested a 43-year-old suspect, the same outlet reported. In June 2022, officers investigated a carjacking in the 4700 block that triggered a multi-agency pursuit ending in the arrest of two teenagers in Saint Matthews, and in May 2022, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the nearby 4500 block, prompting a homicide investigation.
Buechel's dense concentration of multi-family apartment complexes traces back to the 1951 construction of General Electric's nearby 900-acre Appliance Park manufacturing facility, which spurred rapid post-war suburban development along corridors like Fegenbush Lane, according to an ArcGIS StoryMaps history of the area. Today, foreign-born residents make up more than 21% of Buechel's population, reflecting a 34.8% increase in immigrant residency in recent years alongside high rates of rental housing, per U.S. Census Bureau survey data.
