A collision involving two semi-trucks was reported around 11:45 a.m. Friday on northbound Interstate 5 just north of the Buttonwillow Rest Area, pinning a driver inside one of the trucks and shutting down a travel lane.
The crash was first reported Friday, according to KBAK/BakersfieldNow, which said the number two lane was closed following the collision. The outlet reported that a driver was pinned inside a truck, citing information from the CHP website, though it remains unknown whether anyone else was hurt in the crash.
Traffic-tracking service CommuteDash confirmed that northbound traffic had been reduced to one lane roughly two miles north of the Buttonwillow Rest Area because of the collision, matching the lane closure described in the station's report.
Scene Details Remain Limited
A separate traffic-incident feed offered a narrower glimpse of the wreck itself. The CHP Big Rig Accident Feed described the collision as involving a red big rig with a white trailer and a gray big rig also pulling a white trailer, and noted that the driver of the gray truck was reported pinned inside. That same page logged the initial crash report at around 11:45 a.m. Friday.
Traffic Update
In a 4:30 p.m. update on Friday, BakersfieldNow reported that traffic was moving in both lanes.
