Two people were shot while at a Wawa in Sicklerville, Camden County, on Sunday night, leaving a convenience store and gas station wrapped in crime scene tape well past dark. Police found both victims when they arrived at the store and rushed them to a hospital, though their conditions remained unclear hours later.
The Winslow Township Police Department said officers responded to a report of a person shot at the Wawa in the 400 block of Sicklerville Road at around 9 p.m. Sunday, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. When officers arrived, they found two people shot, and both unidentified victims were taken to the hospital. As of the station's report, no arrests or motives had been announced.
Scene Stayed Active Into the Night
The crime scene was still active as of just before midnight, with tape stretched around the Wawa's entrance and the adjacent gas station area, per the same account. It remained unclear exactly where on the property the shooting took place. The overnight presence of police tape across both the store entrance and the fuel pumps suggests investigators were still working to piece together what happened well after the initial 911 call.
Detectives are now asking anyone with information to come forward. Police asked that tips be directed to Detective Catherine Lewellen at 609-567-0700, extension 1187, the report notes.
Not the First Violence Tied to a Wawa Lot
Shootings at Wawa locations have drawn scrutiny elsewhere in New Jersey recently. A separate, deadly shooting in a Wawa parking lot in Toms River was under investigation, according to prosecutors cited by CBS New York. It is not known whether that case has any connection to Sunday's shooting in Sicklerville.
Winslow Township has also seen gun violence earlier this year. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office reported that two juveniles were arrested and charged in connection with a Winslow Township shooting that happened in June. It is unclear whether that case is connected to Sunday night's shooting at the Wawa.
For now, the scope of Sunday's shooting, including who was involved and why, remains unanswered. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Winslow Township police as the investigation continues.
